Parent Survival Guide: Preparing for an Amazing Summer at Camp Judaea
Welcome parents to the Camp Judaea family! Sending your child to camp is an exciting adventure filled with growth, friendships, and unforgettable experiences. This guide is here to help you navigate the journey, set realistic expectations, and ensure a smooth transition for both you and your camper.
🤣 😢 😌 Emotions Are Normal – For Everyone!
It’s natural to feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. Your camper might have moments of homesickness, and you might feel an unexpected twitch of missing them too! Trust in the experience—camp helps children build confidence, independence, and resilience.
Tip: Keep goodbyes positive and brief. Express confidence in their ability to have a fantastic time.
📞 📧 Communication: The Camp Way
Camp is an opportunity for your child to unplug and immerse themselves in the experience. While you may not hear from them daily, rest assured that no news is often good news!
How You’ll Stay Informed:
- Letters: Encourage your camper to write home. Pack pre-addressed, stamped envelopes or through e-mail letters via Campminder.
- Updates: Follow Camp Judaea’s emails and social media for pictures and camp highlights.
- Phone Calls: Our team is always here to support you with any questions or concerns. Please allow up to 24 hours for any response to emails or phone messages
Tip: Send upbeat, encouraging letters that focus on their fun activities rather than how much you miss them.
🧳 Packing Smart
Stick to the packing list! Each item is carefully selected to help your camper feel comfortable and prepared.
Essentials:
- Clothing: Pack for adventure—comfortable, weather-appropriate, and okay to get messy!
- Shoes: Closed-toe shoes for activities, sandals for downtime.
- Bedding: A cozy pillow and blanket can make camp feel more like home.
- Toiletries: Label everything!
Tip: Involve your camper in packing so they know where everything is.
🪥 🚿 Hygiene & Self-Care
Campers will be responsible for their hygiene, and reminders will be given.
Encourage:
- Daily showers
- Brushing teeth
- Changing clothes regularly
- Applying sunscreen & bug spray
Tip: Practice these routines before camp so they feel natural.
🌮 🧇 🥗 Food & Special Diets
Our Chadar Ochel (dining hall) offers delicious, nutritious meals. We accommodate dietary needs—be sure to communicate any requirements before camp.
👯 Making Friends & Trying New Things
Camp is about building friendships and stepping outside comfort zones. Encourage your child to embrace new experiences!
Tip: Remind them that it’s okay to be nervous and that making friends takes time. A simple “Can I join?” goes a long way.
😢 Homesickness Happens—And That’s Okay
Many campers feel a little homesick at first. Our staff is trained to support them, and most campers adjust quickly.
What Helps:
- Reassure them that feelings of homesickness are normal.
- Avoid making “pick-up” deals—this can make adjusting harder.
- Focus on the positives in your letters.
Tip: If your child is struggling, we’ll reach out and work together to support them.
❤️🩹 Trust the Process & Enjoy the Break
Camp is a gift that fosters independence, resilience, and confidence. Give your camper space to grow and allow yourself to enjoy the break!
Tip: Plan some fun activities for yourself while they’re away—it’ll make the time go faster!
Thank you for trusting us with your child’s summer adventure. We can’t wait to see them thrive at Camp Judaea!
