Medical Information
Medical attention in the CJ Health Care Center is covered by camp tuition. All additional costs incurred during camp are the responsibility of the camper’s parent or guardian. This includes but is not limited to refilling previously prescribed medications, new medication prescribed by the camp’s physician, emergency room visits, local physician visits, and/or outside providers of medical attention. All of the above will be billed by the outside provider to the parent or guardian's medical insurance carrier. Visits to the dentist and orthodontists are billed directly to the camper’s parent or guardian.
Parents or guardians are financially responsible for all related charges that are not covered by their medical insurance including but not limited to: deductibles, co-insurance charges, and portions of medical charges that individual insurance companies decline to pay.
Medical Insurance
Campers are required to have valid health insurance coverage. Please attach clear photocopies (front and back) of your camper’s health insurance card where indicated on the Medical Authorization Form.
Immunization Policy
The vaccination of all members of the Camp Judaea community is essential to maintain a safe environment and decrease the risk of transmission of these preventable illnesses.
All children attending Camp Judaea MUST receive the full complement of vaccinations as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
Camp Judaea requires vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox, Polio, Hepatitis A, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Streptococcus Pneumoniae, Haemophilus Influenzae Type B, and Neisseria Meningitidis. Current tetanus immunization will also be required. If you have any questions concerning this policy, please contact the Camp Judaea Director.
Vaccinations – As we plan for this summer, we continue to lean heavily on our long-time medical team as well as the CDC, AAP, and our state health department to make the best decisions possible for our entire camp community. Based on their advice, together with what we know today, it is strongly recommended that every camper and staff be fully vaccinated, including boosters where indicated.
It is important to note that Camp Judaea reserves the right to change our vaccine requirements at any time to protect the safety of our camper population.
COVID
While camp is in session, we will not be testing for COVID-19 without reason. If a camper shows very relevant symptoms and everything else is ruled out first, they will be tested for COVID and their parent or guardian will be notified. We intend to keep anyone testing positive for COVID at camp, including alternate sleeping arrangements and fun-filled programming, once campers feel better.
There will be no asymptomatic, close contact, or post-trip testing. In addition, there will be no close contact quarantining.
Lice Treatment Policy
Untreated lice can quickly become a camp-wide problem during the summer. In everyone’s best interest, we have a strict lice policy. All campers will be checked for lice on Opening Day. Should lice or nits be found on a camper, they will be treated at camp by the Heads Up Asheville Lice Treatment Center for the cost of $275 (wet hair comb-thru $10) which will be billed directly to the parent or guardian and charged to the credit card we have on file. This cost will include all necessary follow-up checks and treatments. Please refer to the Incidental Payment Form for further clarification.
Medication Policy
Camp Judaea requires all camper families to order all prescriptions, regular over-the-counter medications, and vitamins that are taken daily to be pre-packaged before coming to camp through the services of CampMeds. You can register your camper at www.campmeds.com. Registration for Summer 2026 is now open. Please note that registration is required each year, so you'll need to complete this process for every camper, every summer.
The cost of this service per camper is:
- $65 through March 31
- $85 through May 15th
- $105 after May 15th
Prescriptions are not required at the time of registration but must be submitted 30 days prior to the start of camp to avoid a late fee and no later than 15 days before camp starts. Medication lists can be updated after registration if needed.
Please make sure that the medications your camper will be taking through CampMeds match what you have filled out on your camper’s health history form. Contact CampMeds at www.CampMeds.com or 954-577-0025 to register your camper’s medications.
If you do not register with CampMeds, you will be charged a non-compliance packaging fee of $150 to the credit card we have on file. This fee will be due at check-in.
No Medication "Vacations"
At Camp Judaea, we understand how important it is to maintain consistency in your child’s routine, especially when it comes to their medication. Just as children take their medication during the school year, it’s essential for them to continue their prescribed regimen while at camp.
A consistent medication routine supports your camper’s well-being and sets them up for success during their time with us.
OTC Medications
Over-the-counter medications are usually stocked in the Health Care Center. If your camper takes an OTC medication regularly, it is necessary to order the OTC medication through CampMeds. Contact CampMeds at www.CampMeds.com or 954-577-0025 to register your camper’s medications.
Eye Care
Campers who wear eyeglasses or contact lenses are encouraged to bring an extra pair to camp to be left in the Health Care Center. Please provide the Health Care Center with a copy of the prescription. Eyeglasses should have the camper’s name marked clearly on the inside of the frames. Campers who wear contact lenses should be able to insert/remove their lenses with ease. If your camper requires the services of an ophthalmologist or optometrist, Camp Judaea will make arrangements for the visit and accompany your camper to the appointment. You will be billed for the cost of the services.
Dental Work
Please attend to your camper's dental needs before camp begins as we do not have a dentist in camp. If your camper needs dental or orthodontic work, camp will make arrangements for the visit, transport, and accompany your camper to the appointment.
You will be billed for the cost of the dental work.
Medical Communication
Our Health Care Center staff is always available and ready to help our campers. We are partners with each of you in providing campers with great medical care. Our medical staff will contact you (the camper's guardian) if your camper:
- Has to stay overnight in the Health Care Center.
- Has an appointment with providers or physicians outside of camp.
- Starts a new prescription medication.
- Has a recurrent medical problem. (If your camper is a frequent visitor to the Health Care Center (HCC) and visits the HCC multiple times with no definitive diagnosis)
- Suffers any injury or emergency that requires the camper to be transported offsite for emergency treatment and/or medical evaluation. Your camper will always be with a staff member from camp.
