First Time Campers
👋 Welcoming First-Time Campers
For decades, we’ve welcomed first-time campers of all ages, and we’ve become experts at integrating new campers into the community. Our trained staff specializes in fostering cohesion within the bunk, ensuring that every camper feels included and valued. Bonding programs kick off on the very first day and are thoughtfully nurtured throughout the session, helping to create lasting friendships.
A Fresh Experience for Everyone, Every Summer Even our long-time campers experience something new every summer. The dynamic shifts with evolving staff teams, updated programming, and enhanced amenities. Campers themselves grow and change during the off-season, bringing fresh perspectives that make each summer feel distinct and exciting.
Part of the Camp Judaea Family This ever-changing energy ensures that every summer is a unique adventure. While first-time campers may feel new initially, they quickly become an essential part of the Camp Judaea Mishpacha (Family)—contributing to the rich, welcoming community that makes camp so special.
🗓️ Introductory CJ Meetings
If your camper is coming for the first time this year, you will receive an email invitation from Francine Safdeye, Camper Experience Director to set up an introductory group meetings. Not only are these meetings a great way for us to get to know your camper, but they are also a great way for your camper to get to know us and other campers. Having a friendly faces on the opening day of camp helps ease the transition upon arrival.
All first-time campers are required to participate in the new camper group calls. Parents are also highly encouraged to set up 1:1 meetings with Francine to ask questions and discuss any additional concerns. Returning families are also welcome to schedule a time to connect before the summer!
If you need further assistance, you can email Francine Safdeye at [email protected] or contact her at 404-369-1858.
👯 Making Friends
Whether your camper is coming without a friend or knows 10 other kids coming - encourage making new friendships every summer. When campers get to Camp Judaea, they'll meet their Tzevet (staff) and bunkmates and play some “get-to-know-you games”.
Help your child: practice some conversation starters before arrival. A good rule of thumb - what are some questions they might want a new friend to know about them?
Just remember, Camp is a great way to make new friends, and many campers come to CJ without knowing anyone else. Your camper will begin bonding with fellow campers the moment they arrive at Camp, and will return home with wonderful, lifelong friendships.
👋 Meet Ups
You’ll have opportunities to meet other kids from your session before Camp even starts. For first-time campers, you will receive an email from our team introducing you to some other families to help schedule meet-ups. If you don't receive it, please contact [email protected].

There are lots of books out there to help your camper prepare for their summer at sleepaway camp
